Facial Wrinkles
Wrinkles develop due to the inadequate repair of damaged collagen and elastin fibers over a period of time.
Causes of Facial Wrinkles:
- Chronological aging due to hormone depletion, telomere shortening, and hereditary factors among others
- Photo-aging due to UVA/UVB and infra-red exposure
- Glycation as an inevitable process of aging, although it is also induced by high sugar intake
- Toxi-aging due to environmental toxicities: pollution, ionized radiation, food additives, and preservatives in cosmetics and body lotions
- Smoking
- Alcohol
The two main types of wrinkles
Dynamic wrinkles
Dynamic wrinkles occur naturally as a result of us showing our emotions: We smile, laugh, cry and frown and, while expressing our emotions, these lines become more obvious.
As we become older, collagen, elastin, and hyaluronic acid decrease, reducing the skin’s elasticity and structure. Eventually, some of those dynamic wrinkles transform into static – or permanent- wrinkles.
Static wrinkles
Static wrinkles are basically permanent lines on the face formed continuously due to the inadequate repair of elastic and collagen fibers. They can appear in the area of repeated facial expression (such as smile lines) or independently in any part of the face.
Types of static wrinkles:
- Forehead wrinkles and frown lines (initially dynamic)
- Crow’s feet and smile lines (initially dynamic)
- Nasolabial lines
- Smoker’s and perioral lines
- Marionette lines
- Chin & Neck wrinkles
Our approach to wrinkle removal
Because no two people are the same, we create a personalised approach to every client, with our goal being to retain a natural look.
Liquid face lift
For softening facial wrinkles comprehensively, 8th SENSE recommends what is known as the liquid face lift.
It combines neuromodulator treatment, to relax muscles that are creating wrinkles, and fillers that effectively fill up folds, wrinkles, lines etc.
We recommend this treatment to anyone with mild to moderate facial wrinkles and sagging requiring rapid improvement.
3D facial rejuvenation
8th SENSE have also adopted a new approach – 3D facial rejuvenation – as we understand that aging affects deeper facial structures that we cannot always see, such as fat tissue misplacement, bone loss, ligament aging etc.
This method not only works on superficial facial wrinkles, but also results in a deep volume restoration of the face, treating shadows on the face as well as volume loss using fillers. By creating a myo-modulation of the muscle where necessary and supporting ligaments we can address deeper facial structures that are involved in facial aging.
Recommended wrinkle treatments
Dermal fillers for static wrinkles
Many wrinkles are commonly treated with dermal fillers, which are injected into static wrinkles, with the aim of softening them. Although the most commonly treated wrinkles include nasolabial folds, marionette lines, and vertical lip lines, any static wrinkle can be treated with a filler. New generation fillers are designed to target a specific area of the face and used at a certain depth to deliver more precise results. They are longer lasting, usually up to 18 months, and can achieve great tissue integration. In other words, there are no visible signs that you have had treatment (other than improved look), and the ‘lumps and bumps’ usually seen with old-generation fillers are not present. 8th SENSE uses JUVÉDERM® (Allergan.Inc) and Restilayne® (Galderma) fillers.
Neuromodulator for dynamic wrinkles
Neuromodulator (BonTA) works as an injectable muscle relaxant. It is used in various medical fields and has been tried and proven in more than 20 years of use.
- It is used to relax muscles involved in creation of dynamic wrinkles that are part of our usual facial mimic, such as the frown lines and smile lines.
- It can be used to relax overactive muscles that lead to facial features that show aging, such as: “downward mouth”, ”pebble chin”, and “platysma bend” (neck lines).
- In keeping with our face re-shaping approach, neuromodulator can be used to re-shape faces like the techniques we use in the Nefertiti neck lift or slimming face.
FAQ
Mesotherapy infuses the dermis (a layer of skin) with potent vitamins and antioxidants to rejuvenate and revitalise tired and aged skin. People who have had this treatment describe their skin as firm, radiant, youthful, and glowing. Mesotherapy skin rejuvenation may be used as a complement to any of the other skin treatments, including wrinkle treatments. 8th SENSE offers mesotherapy as a part of their signature treatment called 8th SENSE Mesoglow.
Chemical peel is a process that removes the old, rough and dead skin from the upper layer of the skin, encouraging the rejuvenation of new skin cells. 8th SENSE recommends chemical peels for age spots, blemishes, sun damage, uneven pigmentation, rough and dull looking skin, as well as to prevent fine lines and superficial wrinkles. It cannot be used as a stand-alone treatment for wrinkles, but is rather a complementary procedure.
Microneedling is a sterile skin needling system that creates microscopic channels deep within the dermis to stimulate the body to produce new collagen and elastin. It is recommended for skin rejuvenation as well as superficial wrinkles and lines. This treatment can be used in conjunction with mesotherapy vitamins and growth factors, hydration substances (HA) etc.
8th SENSE uses fractional laser I-Pixel and non-ablative laser ClearLIFT Q-Switched Laser as a part of a holistic approach to diminish facial wrinkles; a process that is usually combined with other recommended treatments. Crepey skin under the eye area is a first place where we recommend ClearLIFT. ClearLIFT laser works by treating the epidermis and upper dermis; keeping the skin barrier intact, which makes this procedure very comfortable. I-pixel creates tiny ablative zones that aim to stimulate the growth of young, healthy tissue and new collagen.
